These hybrid horn designs enable a tremendously dynamic and deep bass reproduction. They easily fill big rooms with music, which would otherwise only be possible with bigger, costlier systems. Because it has such a high sensitivity (93dB) 1W at 1m, it lends itself equally well to SE triode or high-performance transistor amplification.
Because of the co-axial speaker chassis and the resulting point source radiating sound a superior deep soundstage can be heard.
Additionally if you wish to create a surround system, the Dragonfly (Centre speaker version) can be added, which leads to outstanding sound and stupendous dynamics, and all of this in living room friendly dimensions.
The placement of the Dragonfly is very forgiving. Since of the nature of the bass reproduction is such that it is much easier to position them compared to conventional loudspeakers.
The Dragonfly have been developed with our maxim of keeping things simple so that the reproduction of sound is as unaffected as possible:
There are no sound influencing crossover components for the full range driver, as is normally done in more conventional loudspeakers, this results in a much more stable load for the amplifier and better sound is the result.
The tweeter arranged in the centre of the full range driver is simply filtered with a 1st order filter (a capacitor), apart from that it has only been compensated in level to integrate better with the full range driver.
In order for the large diaphragm to reproduce voices and acoustic instruments realistically, it has been treated with a special oil. Together with the very pure sound representation of the extremely low distortion tweeter this enables the Dragonfly to dissolve even the finer structures of music and separate the different layers of the reproduced music. Authenticity of a live performance is the result. The Dragonfly therefore excel in conveying the emotion and thrill of a life performance.
